Ingenious One 2 is filming right now. I have been meaning to watch part 1 but would rather watch it closer to the airing of season 2. I don't want a Joy of Life season 1 situation lol.
However, Ingenious One didn't end in a cliffhanger so that's that at least.
PS: Chen Xiao is one of my fav #Cdrama actors
Chinese-literature-in-translation problems:
Every time the Chinese Lore Podcast* mentions Jiang Ziya’s God-Beating Staff, I think of the Beggar Gang Chief’s Dog-Beating Staff from Legend of the Condor Heroes.** Every time!
It’s clearly not a pun, but in my English-speaking mind, it has become one.
* specifically, the Investiture of the Gods season: https://chineselore.com/series/series-investiture-of-the-gods/
** I know the Beggar Gang show up in wuxia novels by various writers, but I haven’t read enough to know if the Dog-Beating Staff is always a feature or if it’s a Jin Yong special. The Chief in Chu Liuxiang book 1 didn’t have it.
Day 1 - What type of dramas do I prefer?
Must I choose?
But if I were to choose, definitely #wuxia, and since only the Chinese produce them, I tend to watch #Cdramas more.
FYI Wuxia is a genre about chivalry, heroes, values, and brotherhood l; it usually revolves around martial artists from the "Jiang hu" (martial arts world).
#SnowyNightTimelessLove is a good example, so is the upcoming Tales of Dark River (pic below)
#SnowyNightTimelessLove is not for the casual cdrama viewer who wants romance, fluffy CP moments. I don't consider this #cdrama a romance. Its English name does it a disservice. The original Chinese title is 七夜雪 which simply means "Seven Nights of Snow".
The drama is a melancholic, deeply philosophical #wuxia tale about the impermanence of life and the Buddhist belief that attachment brings about suffering.
Its the kind of drama that you need to look beneath the surface to appreciate.
Still loving #SnowyNightTimelessLove. Old time, wuxia vibe. Been a long time since I watched anything like it
Ep 14 now. I know people think Huo Zhanbai's repetitive injuries tedious, but to me it serves an important purpose in emphasising his obsession with getting a cure for his junior sister's son and also serves as a way for him to get closer to the icy and aloof Ziye, who would never get to know him otherwise.
#intro post for yr. villainous friend
Hello! I'm Rae and I'm here for #fandom, primarily #webnovels of the #danmei, #baihe, #wuxia, and/or #xianxia variety. I watch the occasional #cdrama too, but very slowly. As you can tell from my name, I am an #MDZS fan (also #SVSSS and #TGCF). I'm currently doing a #ChuLiuxiangReadalong, watching #LegendOfFei, and constantly thinking about #ALeagueOfNobleman and its source novel #ZhangGongAn. I love villains and stories about conflicting loyalties, dark pasts and mysterious secrets. I write fanfic and share it here.
Other than fandom, I post a little about #ChineseHistory, learning Mandarin (just passed HSK 3 and HSKK Elementary!), historical bookbinding, personal web dev, and so on. I'm in the Central European time zone and also read German, plus a tiny bit of Swedish.
I woke up with the phrase, “Strange women in caves distributing martial arts manuals is no basis for a system of government,” bouncing round my head, good morning. #wuxia
Finally found a new #cdrama I can watch all the way through (all the episodes are available).
#legendofshenli is a funny, different kind of #wuxia with an engaging pair of leads.
The story is both serious and funny.
30 minutes of Lu Lingfeng fighting - for those who like watching him with sharp objects (Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty)
Strange Tales is not just known for its writing, but it's martial arts scenes :)
Warning: Full of spoilers
OOOOOOH BOY! Smash hit #wuxia #cdrama #TheDouble is now on Netflix!
I finished reading Thousand Autumns volume 4 last night! Really good wuxia with a slowburn romance and lots of cool side characters.
Shen Qiao needs a spray bottle for Yan Wushi.
I can't wait for volume 5 next month!
Great article/review of Shelley Parker Chan’s She Who Became the Sun as a diasporic text - quite old but very worth your time whether you’ve read the (incredible, amazing, mindblowing) book or not.
Gave yet another dimension to Parker Chan’s fantastic prose.
Reminded me how extraordinary the book (and its sequel) was - still the best I’ve read in the last few years.

I am currently seperated from my beloved Chromecast and TV so have to make do without my Youku, WeTV and iQIYI. So I am rewatching Ancient Detective. I watched it many moons ago in a very chaotic fashion, so I made a promise to rewatch it, but slower. It's even better than I remember - a #wuxia detective tale, very classic in its set up; focuses on brotherhood and fighting between sects, the whole deal. Every character is unique! If you've not watched it, give it a try!
There aren't many films where you can see Jet Li dressed as a chicken fighting a fire-breathing centipede manned by heretic monks, but 'The Last Hero In China' is probably one of the better ones.
Happy 100th birthday to Jin Yong! Here are some photos from my visit to the Jin Yong gallery in HK in 2018.
Also, a link to a blogpost I wrote about him from my website archives: https://yilinwang.com/jin-yong-wuxia/
A great free novelette by S. L. Huang to be read here:

Want to thank @jenxi and @chungliwen for putting up with my nagging! Now I get to enjoy #wuxia novels by Gu Long and Jin Yong and the fansubber's hard work.
FYI I always find fansubbed English translations superior to "official ones" as lots of love is put into it.
