I started listening to the newest #Serialpodcast episode yesterday and... Why, oh why, when recording an on-location interview where I'M SURE they have more than one microphone on the coffee table, they use the extremely annoying effect of "sliding in" the sound from a new speaker? You know, like it's out of the mic's range and then they step forward and the sound gets better? I bet my ass that they have individual, small mics and there is no logical reason to do it.

WE KNOW it's a live interview on location where the interviewer and their subject share the space. I get that the online interviews have been edited to sound terrible because they need to sound "authentic" or some shit but why the fading in and out? It's annoying, it's redundant, it's stupid! ARGH.
(The new story is okay.)
