Cat
I caught one of those moments this morning, where sunrise and a nearly full moon are visible in the sky at the same time; sibling illuminaries greeting each other across the planet.

These moments are fleeting, it's only about 10 minutes before the sunrise washes out the moon's light.

I'm not really a morning person, but I was compelled to say a prayer. Since we Pagans find power in the liminal, I wonder what kind of magick could be done at these precious times?
#Pagan

MikeDunnAuthor
Today in Labor History March 9, 1902: Actor Will Geer was born. Best known for his role as Grandpa Walton in the long-running series, “The Waltons,” Geer also appeared in the groundbreaking film, “Salt of the Earth,” which portrayed the struggle of Mexican American workers at the Empire Zinc Mine. Because of his activism on labor and political issues, he was blacklisted in Hollywood for many years. In 1934, he became a member of the Communist Party. He also met LGBTQ activist Harry Hay that year and they became lovers. Together, they supported the 1934 San Francisco General Strike and demonstrated against fascism and for workers’ rights. Hay was a co-founder of the Mattachine Society, the first major gay rights group in the United States, and the Radical Faeries, an anarcho-pagan queer spiritual-political movement.

#workingclass #LaborHistory #communism #lgbtq #sanfrancisco #generalstrike #antifascism #blacklist #radicalfaeries #anarchism #pagan #mattachine

Cat
If you've been a pagan for a while, you run into the same questions over and over again. It can be difficult to come up with quick, easy to understand answers to a topic as complex as religious beliefs when you're like, standing in line at the grocery checkout.

I've learned that the best strategy is to somewhat meet their expectations, and then direct the next question to a simpler, more specific topic with your answer.

Here are some that I've developed over the years that seem to work:

Q: "What is paganism?"
A: "It's a nature-centered religion where we believe in many gods, kinda like Buddhism."
(This gives people a frame of reference to something they have heard of before, even though it's not perfectly accurate.)

Q: Do you worship Satan?
A: Not personally, though pagans worship all dofferent kinds of gods. As long as no harm is being done, we don't tell people which gods to worship.
(Emphasizing the polytheistic nature of paganism works best, especially for christians, who have to get over that binary good vs. evil idea first if you want to reach them)

Q: Do you do spells/believe in magic?
A: Yeah, a spell is just like a prayer with ingredients. I make a brew, light a candle, and ask the universe for help. I mean, it can't hurt, amiright?
(Sounds a lot less cool and mystical like that, but it appeals to reason.)

Q: So are you, like, a witch?
A: Yeah, I practice witchcraft every time I work in my garden, lol. It sounds way cooler than it is, it's mostly meditating and lighting incense.
(Don't tell what witchcraft *is*, focus on what it looks like.)

#Pagan

Cat
In Norse mythology, the father of the Jötunn, Ymir, was taken apart by the gods, and his body was used to make Midgard. His teeth became mountains, and his head became the dome of the sky.

There are many comparative myths throughout the world where a primordial being is defeated, broken apart, and the universe becomes ordered.

I think even our modern day creation myth, the Big Bang, has echoes of these long-held human truths.
