@Priyajsridhar A3. As someone who is ND, I mask a lot of the time. Due to my life experiences, "appearing to be happy" is part of that mask. Masking is draining. For some things, fake-it-til-you-make-it works but not for being happy. I just feel more awful.
3. Our society encourages us to chase happiness and its enshrined as a right in our Declaration of Independence. Yet pretending to be happy gives me a headache, literally! Does pretending or acting happy work for you? #Writephant

Am I happy, today, in this day and moment? Why or why not?
Less happy than I'd like to be. I'm facing minor surgery (knee), my hubby is facing slightly less minor surgery once his body cooperates (removal of metal from bunion surgery). And our insurance is tied to his job as a contractor at a government agency . . . .

@Priyajsridhar A2. I think that suffering produces good art is just an excuse to let people suffer.
I can't produce art when I'm at my worst healthwise, so I don't think that suffering is required for good art.
I know the art I produce when I'm happy is different than when I have other pressures and still produce art. But generally, burn out is a thing suffering leads to and there's just no art then.
2. The old cliche is that writers produce better art when they suffer. Writers today say that it’s the opposite, that we do better work when we’re happy. What do you think? #Writephant

@adriabailton @Priyajsridhar Oh, absolutely. We have reminders set to talk to friends, and we've been trying to focus on local connection over the past several months (which is a bit difficult with mobility restrictions!)

I am doing pretty well. I went to lunch with some friends today, which was a lot of fun. Work is quiet, which is always nice.
