I’m thinking about changing my knitting to make less but use local, sustainable quality yarns. There are so few woollen mills left in Australia and GOR Woolen Mills are doing it off-grid and using local fibre.

"Greenery" teableau for 03/12/25

The cup & saucer at center are very old, given to my octogenarian friend in her childhood by a WWI English vet disabled from being gassed in the trenches. My friend, raised in NZ, gave it to me in WA State. It's seen some things.

What is the strangest item I've ever crocheted? Probably this large and small intestine, complete with colon that I made for the doctor that gave me my life back. I had over 50 surgeries between 2020-2021 for an infection that wouldn't subside. I am a chronically ill and disabled individual, something you probably wouldn't notice when first meeting me (unless I'm using my mobility aids). #knitting and #crocheting have been super important outlets in my life. It keeps my mind busy and gives me something to do on days where it's too painful or exhausting to do anything else. I gave my surgeon this right before my 50th surgery with him joking that if things were really bad in there to just replace everything with this lol. He got a good laugh and when I went in for my second surgery for the week (I was doing 2 surgeries/week for a long while) he said that it made a great pillow lol. #crochet #amigurumi #handmade #gift #yarn

🧶🧶🧶 Hello #Knitterati! A new project, after Mom's sweater was finally completed...

Meet my new #WIP - #TheAspenWrap. This wrap (made one 15+ years ago, in storage now) was a fave. Cables grip the shoulders, and moss stitch part drapes nicely, longer than it might seem from these pix.

This gorgeous wool is from Norway, generously gifted to me. Have been waiting for the perfect match for it. I think this may be it!

Hello! It's me asking for resources again. Larger knitters (like me) have probably run into pattern grading mishaps - where designers increase all dimensions of a garment by some % according to a table, and end up with a sweater for a 50" bust that has a 20" neckline (!!). Has anybody done some reading on the phenomenon and have written resources they can share?

🧶🧶🧶 Finally dove into last task from #FallFinishOrFrogAlong... is that the right name?

Anyway DEEPLY have wanted to organize my stash so can easily find things in my disabled state. Also, select new projects by starting with yarn vs pattern. Be super-clear about yardages on hand, etc. etc.

It is slow, repetitive work, but I'm finding myself in a chill meditative state, so it's all good! So happy I'm doing this! 😊

Some more shots from different lighting angles.

I'm curious whether the blocking process will help much for the very curly and chunky yarns at the end. Even if not, I like the look of the reverse-stockinette lozenges!

On the finer end, the front side of the stockinette really shines. I'm surprised at how nicely the final 8.a section is coming out, since the yarn is rather dense and in places overspun and nobbly: the resulting fabric is dense, but surprisingly soft to the touch. It reminds me a bit of my warmest wool winter socks.

It makes me wonder whether husky wool would be particularly good for winter socks, both for warmth and for wear.
